Inside the building
Main Entrance
Our main entrance is located at 2 Queen’s Crescent. To access the building there is some small up step. A ramp is available but please contact our friendly team ahead of your visit to ensure it is in situ. Our team can be contacted by calling 0141 332 4632 or by emailing info@visibilityscotland.org.uk
After the up step there is a ramp with handrails at either side. The main door opens inwards into the building.
Doors and Signage
All doors all doors in Visibility Scotland are navy blue. The signage is tactile and offers Braille. The signs are in the centre of the doors.
Reception Area
Once you are through the front door, take a direct 90 degrees right turn and go up the ramp, minding the lip at the bottom, and turn right again through a doorway into the reception area. The reception desk will be on the lefthand side and a friendly member of our team will be available to support you. There is a seating area on the right.
The floor in the reception area is even and clear of clutter. There are no steps.
Digital Suite and Independent Living Flat
Next to the reception area you will find our small meeting room which is also our Independent Living Flat, as well as our Digital Suite. Staff will guide you to these areas. There are no steps. Corridors are wide enough for wheelchair access and the floors are even and clutter free.
Community Rooms
To access our community rooms, head back to the area just inside the front door. Staff are available to guide you. Once there, staff will allow you access through the interior door.
Ground floor / Café community room
Once you are in the corridor past the interior door, the entrance to our café room is immediately to your left at 90 degrees. In the centre of the café room there is a large table with chairs around the edge that can sit approximately 12 people. If standing in the doorway, to the left are two large windows and to the right is the door through to the kitchen.
Basement community room
To reach our basement community room, there are stairs and a lift. Support to navigate these are available. Once inside the room, there is a large open space to the left. In the video above, the space is set up with chairs around a long table, but the setup may be different depending on the activity you are attending. Staff are available to support you in navigating the space.
Toilets
There are two toilets available for use. One located on the ground floor through the security door (our friendly team will give you access), and one in the basement community room.
Ground floor toilet
If you continue down the corridor outside the café room, there is a unisex toilet. To reach this, take a straight line of travel keeping, slightly to the left. The toilet is located at the end of the corridor. The door is blue and opens outward, and has a lever lock on the inside.
Once inside the toilet, the sink is located immediately inside the door on the left. The toilet is located near the back wall on the left, on the right of the sink When seated on the toilet, the toilet roll holder is located slightly in front and on the left, it is attached to the wall. The bin is on the right as you enter the toilet. A sign is above the bin.
Accessible toilet (inside basement community room)
To the right of the basement community room entrance you will find an accessible toilet. The toilet door opens outward (in to the room) and has a turn lock.
Once inside the toilet, the sink is located just inside the door on the left. The toilet is straight ahead and slightly to the left on the back wall. It has a high contrast black seat. The sanitary bin, nappy bin, and regular bin are on the right. There are high contrast black grab bars on either side of the toilet and sink. When seated on the toilet, the toilet roll holder is on the right. It is black to contrast with the light background.
Lift
The lift is located at the back of the building. It is available on all four floors. Unfortunately, the lift does not provide audio or braille. This accessibility issue is a top priority for 2025.
Fire Safety
Alarm
Our fire alarm is tested every Wednesday between 9:30 and 10:00am. Fire wardens will assist in any evacuation. There are two muster points depending on whether you exit to the front or rear of the building.
Muster points
The muster point when exiting onto Queen’s Crescent is the corner of Queen’s Crescent and West Princes Street.
The muster point when exiting to the rear of the building is in the rear car park.
