A special visit

Today, John and Lesley popped into our headquarters at 2 Queen’s Crescent, Glasgow. John and Lesley used to live in our building when it was the Scottish War Blinded, now known as Sight Scotland Veterans. John and Lesley’s mum was the caretaker for the building. Lesley now lives in Australia.

It was fabulous to walk around our building and hear John and Lesley’s stories from their childhood. Many of the rooms remain the same. In the workshop, leather was made and then crafted into wallets and belts by men who had lost their vision in World War two. The workshop room is now where our groups are held and our weekly Charged up Café, and the large meeting room on the first floor was a showroom where the cinema was often held!

A massive thank you to John and Lesley for sharing their memories with us; their stories are helping to piece together the heritage of our B-listed building. This means that our building has supported people living with sight loss for over 40 years! This is exactly why our crusade to restore our building is so important #ForSight.
