Lara goes to London

Lara, our Administrator and Digital Communications Intern, recently went to London as part of Thomas Pocklington Trust’s Get Set Progress programme. She shares her experience here:

Lara’s London Experience

I flew to London on Thursday afternoon with my Mum as part of my internship with Thomas Pocklington Trust (TPT). We arrived to the hustle and bustle of busy London city centre, hopped into a taxi and arrived at the hotel.

The following day, I met the other interns at the TPT office who were from all over the UK. We had talks from previous interns about their experience from the program, as well as interactive activities from various companies and stakeholders who work with vision impaired people. In addition to this, we had discussions from Access to Work, The Employment Team and TPT workers who explained what the next nine months will entail.

The interns who were there all had different types of eye conditions, were of all different ages, and came from different backgrounds. Some had been working for many years, and some were just out of university or looking to get back in to full time employment.

Although the whole day was really useful, for me the best part was chatting to different individuals who were in the same boat as me. Speaking to people who were born vision impaired, had a neurological condition that led to sight loss or had an injury which meant they had a sight impairment was all really insightful.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in London, meeting new faces and hearing everyone’s personal stories has made me look forward to my next journey down!
