Laura’s Bio:

Laura Walker qualified as a Rehabilitation Officer for the Visually Impaired (ROVI) in 2003 and has over 20 years’ experience supporting adults and children with visual impairments, including those with complex neurological conditions and brain injury.

 

She specialises in vision rehabilitation for people with learning disabilities and neurological sight loss.

 

Laura has been preparing expert medico-legal reports for over 10 years, providing specialist opinion in cases involving vision impairment, rehabilitation needs, and functional impact.

 

In 2008, she founded Visual Rehabilitation Scotland, providing specialist rehabilitation services to local authorities, charities, and individuals seeking tailored support beyond standard statutory provision.

 

Laura was appointed CEO of Visibility Scotland in 2021. Visibility Scotland is a leading vision impairment charity and social enterprise that supports more than 2,500 blind and visually impaired people each year, increasing independence and confidence through specialist skills-based services.

 

She is Co-Founder and Vice Chair of Vision Collaborative Scotland, a consortium of third-sector organisations working to drive transformative change across Scotland’s vision impairment sector.

 

Laura also played a pivotal role in developing the University of Strathclyde’s newly launched Vision Rehabilitation course, which supports the training of future rehabilitation professionals.
