Urban Streets

Urban streets are changing. Have your voice heard; your opinion matters.

The urban streetscape is changing. The aim is to increase active travel (walking and wheeling), improve accessibility, and reduce carbon emissions.

Visibility Scotland sits on Glasgow City Council’s Accessible Inclusive Design Forum. Through participation at the forum and speaking to our community groups, we know that many local people feel excluded from consultation opportunities. This can be because of inaccessible information, consultation venues or lack of public promotion.

Visibility Scotland wants to raise awareness of the changes and increase local participation. We know that vision-impaired travellers are vulnerable; their voices and needs must be heard and listened to. Good design facilitates independent travel in urban environments, making us feel safe.

Controlled crossing with a near-view pedestrian control box on the right and lefthand sides. The road crossing section offers high contrast. There are metal studs to the left and right offering a tactile, zoned crossing.
Red blister tactile paving. The laving reaches from the dropdown kerb to the shoreline. It forms an L shape. If standing on the blister paving, facing the road, the crossing is on the kerbside.
