Visibility Scotland on the BBC

Our CEO, Laura Walker, and visually impaired colleagues Audrey and Emma appeared on BBC Reporting Scotland last Friday, 18 February.

They were talking about the Avenues Project in Glasgow and how Glasgow City Council’s plans to transform streets are impacting accessibility and safety.

Sauchiehall Street was the first street to be redesigned as part of the Avenues Project. It has incomplete tactile paving and floating bus stops that are positioned on the other side of a busy dual cycle lane. We believe that this shared space is dangerous for everyone and that the layout makes it particularly difficult for people with sight loss to navigate independently.

Laura, Audrey and Emma spoke to BBC reporter Ian Hamilton about the Avenues Project and highlighted some of the issues with the design of the new street layout.
