Volunteer Kitchen Porter

Location and hours

Location: Visibility Scotland Headquarters, 2 Queen’s Crescent, Glasgow.
Hours: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
Days: Every Tuesday.

 

The Role

We require a dedicated and compassionate Volunteer Kitchen Porter to join our team at Visibility Scotland. As a Volunteer Kitchen Porter, you will play a crucial role in supporting the day-to-day operations of our Charged-Up Café, which is run in partnership with Woodlands Community Development Trust.

 

You will ensure a clean and organised environment that promotes the well-being of our service users. Your commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene will contribute to our service users’ overall comfort and satisfaction.

 

Some key duties as a Volunteer Kitchen Porter:

  • Washing dishes: ensuring that all items are thoroughly cleaned and sanitised.
  • Cleaning and sanitising surfaces: To clean and sanitise countertops, workstations, and preparation areas to maintain a hygienic environment.
  • Disposal of kitchen waste into designated bins, including food scraps and packaging materials.
  • Emptying and cleaning rubbish bins: Regularly emptying and cleaning rubbish bins throughout the kitchen area, including recycling and compost bins, to maintain cleanliness and prevent odours.
  • Assisting with food preparation: There may be involvement in basic food preparation tasks, such as peeling vegetables, chopping ingredients, and handling and distributing food.
  • Adhering to health and safety regulations at all times.

 

Required skills, qualities and experience:

This role is open to someone who has experience within a kitchen environment. The ability to work well as part of a team is essential.

 

Other skills, qualities and experience that would be helpful include:

  • A positive, friendly, ‘can do’ attitude
  • Good personal hygiene
  • Ability to pitch in and be a team player
