What on in June 2023

Here’s what’s coming up in Visibility Scotland in June 2023:

2 June

  • Little Explorers Messy Play event. This session is for children aged five and under. The session will be delivered by our partners at Food Heroes who are two Specialist Dietitians. They will be ready to answer any queries about diet and health for your child. The session incorporates exploring food through play, to build positive relationships with food for children and families while learning and having fun together.  It runs from 10:30 AM until 11.30 AM at our 2 Queen’s Crescent, Glasgow office. 

 

5 June

  • Glasgow Community Group. Come along to our drop-in session for crafting, making and growing together. The group meets between 10 AM to 12.30 PM at our head office: 2 Queen’s Crescent, Glasgow G4 9BW.

 

6 June

  • ‘Switched On’ Zoom workshop. Our next Switched On virtual workshop takes place on Zoom. This session provides advice and support to understand and ‘Switch On’ to the accessibility features on iOS and Android i.e. smartphone or tablet devices.

 

  • Unpaid carers event at our Charged Up café. To celebrate Carers week, we have ‘charged up’ our ‘Charged Up’ Café by inviting some sector friends to join our free weekly community café for people with sight loss. During the event, you will meet: Deafblind Scotland Welfare Rights Officer, The Sensory Hub at the Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland and Glasgow Health and Social Care Carers Team. Each organisation will share advice, service updates and top tips for unpaid carers and the people they support, and you will have the opportunity to ask questions in a safe one-to-one environment. And remember that our food and drinks offerings at our Charged Up café are free of charge. 

 

7 June

  • Saltire Strikers at the Hollywood Bowl. If you are aged 18-25 and enjoy ten-pin bowling, then come along to our ten-pin bowling night on the  evening of Wednesday 7th June 2023. We are teaming up with the Saltire Strikers, a visually impaired ten pin bowling team. We will gather at the Hollywood Bowl, Springfield Quay, Glasgow at 4:30pm. We will enjoy snacks and social time before the Saltire Strikers lead us in a game of ten-pin bowling. Places for this event are limited so booking is essential. 8 June

  • Rosshall drop-in. Our Children, Young People and Families team are running a drop-in session at Rosshall Academy, 131 Crookston Road, Crookston, Glasgow G52 3PD.

 

12 June

  • Glasgow Community Group. Come along to our drop-in session for crafting, making and growing together. The group meets between 10 AM to 12.30 PM at our head office: 2 Queen’s Crescent, Glasgow G4 9BW.

 

13 June

  • Charged up café. Our weekly drop-in café that runs between 10 AM and 3 PM every Tuesday at our head office: 2 Queen’s Crescent, Glasgow G4 9BW. Come along and enjoy some free soup with bread and some tasty sweet treats. You can also charge up your electronic devices free of charge.  It’s a great way to meet and chat to other visually impaired people and find out more about our services.

 

15 June

  • Children, Young People and Families Information Day.  Our CYPF team will be running an information day for families at Renfield St Stephens Centre, 260 Bath St, Glasgow G2 4JP. The event will run from 12.30 PM  to 3 PM. There are speakers from Visibility Scotland and other organisations working with visually impaired people, along with information stalls.

 

19 June

20 June

22 June

  • REACH Positive Outlook. Our regular virtual Positive Outlook course. It runs from 12.30 PM to 2 PM. The course covers practical and emotional tips to help you manage any day to day challenges you may experience following a diagnosis of visual impairment. They also provide an opportunity to talk to other people living with sight loss, to share hints, tips and experiences. 26 June

29 June

  • Technology for young people. We’re running two different technology sessions for young people aged12-17 at our Queen’s Crescent office.  The sessions will run from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. At this event, you will have the chance to take part in two sessions. One session will showcase apps and devices that will help with daily living, including doing laundry, accessing labels and watching TV. This will take place within our fully-equipped independent living flat.

    The second session will be in our digital suite where you will have the chance to speak to our Digital Advisor about accessible apps on your tablet or phone, as well as the latest magnifiers and equipment. Feel free to bring along your tablet or smartphone to this session.

    This event will suit young people who already use technology or are just getting started. Spaces are limited so booking is essential
