Andrea is one of our Patient Support Workers in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area. She first joined Visibility Scotland in 2024, and shares what her time with us has been like so far!
Andrea’s journey with Visibility Scotland

As a relatively new Patient Support Worker in the GGC area I enjoyed spending the first few weeks shadowing colleagues finding out more about the role and meeting hospital staff to ensure that I am part of a strong, connected, supportive team able to provide advice and support to all our service users.
During this period I spent time getting to know more about the roles of all the other staff at Visibility Scotland, attending community activities, meeting people at our weekly Charged Up Café, learning how to make phones and tablets accessible, learning about our children and family sessions, information line, and all our other services. It was important to make sure I understood all the links when referring service users to activities offered by Visibility Scotland, and also to organisations and activities in the wider community to help people live well with their vision impairment.
Being based usually at Gartnavel , RAH in Paisley and New Victoria means I follow staff and service users around to the different locations. Service users are always surprised to find the patient support team in different hospitals, but it also means there is a familiar face around if anyone needs support, has any questions or just wants to say hi!
